ALOCASIA ‘FRANKENSTEIN’

PARENTAGE: A sport of Alocasia ‘Chantrierii’ (Alocasia cuprea x Alocasia sanderiana)

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

Alocasia ‘Frankenstein’ is a mutated cultivar of the hybrid Alocasia ‘Chantrierii’, introduced by Brazilian collector Flavio Cadegiani, who acquired the plant from the Araceales nursery in Holambra, São Paulo, Brazil. The mutation is well established and produces aberrant, chaotic, highly irregular leaves. No two leaves share the same shape, and some are variegated.

The plant grows terrestrially. Its flowers and fruit are like those of other alocasias.

NOTES:

The name, given by Flavio Cadegiani, refers to the plant’s chaotic, irregular, monstrous-looking leaves. The IAS Aroid Cultivar Registry lists Alocasia ‘Frankenstein’ as an accepted cultivar of the sport type.
