ALOCASIA ‘GALAHAD’
PARENTAGE:
Alocasia ‘Argyrea’ × Alocasia longiloba
ORIGIN:
A backcross of Alocasia ‘Argyrea’ onto one of its own parents, Alocasia longiloba, made by David Burnett. He included it among “the results of one’s own work” in his 1984 survey of cultivated Alocasia, calling it “quite a complex hybrid” and “the most complex back cross to date”.¹ ‘Argyrea’ is itself Alocasia longiloba × Alocasia ‘Pucciana’, and ‘Pucciana’ is a cross of two longiloba cultivars, so ‘Galahad’ carries longiloba genetics through every line.¹
HYBRIDIZER:
David Burnett
DESCRIPTION:
The only known photograph, Burnett’s Fig. 130, shows narrow, sagittate leaves with long, spreading basal lobes and broad, pale, silvery primary and secondary veins against a dark blade.¹
NOTES:
STATUS - No record of ‘Galahad’ in the trade or in living collections has been found since Burnett’s paper.
