ALOCASIA ‘PLUTO’
PARENTAGE:
Alocasia 'Bisma' (bought as Alocasia 'Platinum') (ovule) × Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' (pollen)
ORIGIN:
A deliberate cross by Tim Le. He pollinated an inflorescence of Alocasia 'Bisma', bought as Alocasia 'Platinum', with pollen from Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale', the same plant that is the ovule parent of his hybrid Alocasia 'Mercury'.¹
HYBRIDIZER:
Tim Le
DESCRIPTION:
A compact, clumping hybrid. The blade-like leaves are pale blue to grayish and carry the silver-gray coloring of the ovule parent, while the underside takes the dark purple venation pattern of 'Dragon Scale'. The petioles are lightly mottled.¹
The inflorescence has not yet been observed.¹
OVULE PARENT:
Alocasia 'Bisma' (bought as Alocasia 'Platinum'), the ovule parent, photographed in fruit by the registrant.¹
NOTES:
1. The name was inspired by the pale blue atmosphere of the dwarf planet Pluto.¹
2. Le bought the ovule parent as Alocasia 'Platinum', a trade name for one of the silver plants sold as Alocasia 'Bisma' and listed there as a synonym.¹
3. The registrant reports that the plant has been propagated and keeps its distinguishing characteristics, that it is not patented, and that it has not yet been released to the public.¹
