AMORPHOPHALLUS BOYCEANUS × AMORPHOPHALLUS 'JOHN TAN'

PARENTAGE:

Amorphophallus boyceanus × Amorphophallus 'John Tan'

HYBRIDIZER:

Bjorn Malkmus-Hussein; Cyrille Claudel

DESCRIPTION:

Amorphophallus boyceanus was the female parent and Amorphophallus 'John Tan' the male parent.¹ The first plant flowered after only three years with a beautiful inflorescence, but Claudel was a little disappointed that the influence of Amorphophallus titanum, passed on through 'John Tan', was limited to zero.¹

NOTES:

1. Bjorn Malkmus-Hussein: Amorphophallus boyceanus (ovule) × A. 'John Tan' (pollen).²

2. Cyrille Claudel: Amorphophallus boyceanus (ovule) × Amorphophallus 'John Tan' (pollen), fresh pollen; reported 2013.³

STORY:

STORY TITLE: The first hybrid involving three Amorphophallus species

Claudel presented this as the first Amorphophallus hybrid involving three species.¹ He saw it as showing that Amorphophallus hybrids can be fertile and that the traits of the species involved can be mixed in different combinations.¹
