AMORPHOPHALLUS CONSIMILIS × AMORPHOPHALLUS KONJAC

PARENTAGE:

Amorphophallus consimilis × Amorphophallus konjac

HYBRIDIZER:

Ralph Mangelsdorff

DESCRIPTION:

An African species crossed with an Asian one, this cross gave seedlings that were nearly pure white because chlorophyll synthesis did not work properly.¹ Claudel notes that this happens when species are too distantly related or otherwise incompatible, and that such plants are unlikely to grow well, although at least some seedlings turned green several weeks later.¹

NOTES:

1. Ralph Mangelsdorff: Amorphophallus consimilis (ovule) × Amorphophallus konjac (pollen), fresh pollen; reported 2014.²
