AMORPHOPHALLUS KONJAC 'PINTO'

ORIGIN:

Plant Delights Nursery/Juniper Level Botanic Garden; Plant Delights describes it as its first genetic dwarf seed selection of Amorphophallus konjac and dates the introduction to 2003; Juniper Level's list of introductions names Tom McLamb as the source

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

A dwarf Amorphophallus konjac that Plant Delights says matures, with great age, into a stocky plant about 15 inches tall with a typically patterned petiole and extremely dark green, congested foliage.¹ The nursery adds that it offsets so slowly that only 40 plants had been sold worldwide.¹ Juniper Level Botanic Garden's list of introductions gives 2003 as the year.²

NOTES:

1. An Aroid-L listing of plants donated by Tony Avent to an IAS auction in July 2001 already names 'Pinto' as 'the ultimate dwarf', earlier than the 2003 introduction date given by Plant Delights.³
