AMORPHOPHALLUS 'ROBB'S SONG'

ORIGIN:

Robb Melancon; a seedling selected from a cross between two flowerings of Amorphophallus konjac 'Shattered Glass'; accepted by the IAS Aroid Cultivar Registry

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

A dwarf Amorphophallus konjac: the registrant likens it to 'Pinto' in size, with petioles colored much like those of 'Leo Song'; its growth is otherwise that of ordinary Amorphophallus konjac. Like 'Pinto' it is not expected to flower, though the registrant allows that it may.¹

NOTES:

STATUS - Accepted by the International Aroid Society's Aroid Cultivar Registry; as of September 2026 its entry is published on the registry's site.

1. Registered as a select form of Amorphophallus konjac by Robb Melancon, recorded as both originator and namer. The record spells the related cultivar both 'Leo Song' and 'Leo's Song'.¹

STORY:

STORY TITLE: A song for 'Leo Song'

Robb Melancon crossed two flowerings of Amorphophallus konjac 'Shattered Glass'. Most of the seedlings came up as 'Shattered Glass' again, some were plain, one was 'Leo's Song', and one was this dwarf, its petioles colored like those of 'Leo Song'. By its third year of growth both the petiole coloring and the dwarf size had held.¹ Robb Melancon is a musician who writes songs, and the name is also a tribute to 'Leo Song', whose petioles it so closely resembles.¹
