AMORPHOPHALLUS TINEKEAE × (AMORPHOPHALLUS GIGAS × AMORPHOPHALLUS DECUS-SILVAE)
PARENTAGE:
Amorphophallus tinekeae × (Amorphophallus gigas × Amorphophallus decus-silvae)
HYBRIDIZER:
Craig Allen
DESCRIPTION:
The progeny show every trait imaginable, and Claudel was still waiting for inflorescences when the page was archived.¹ The pollen parent is a plant from the Amorphophallus gigas x Amorphophallus decus-silvae cross whose flower combined both parents impressively.¹
NOTES:
1. Craig Allen: Amorphophallus tinekeae (ovule) × (Amorphophallus gigas × Amorphophallus decus-silvae) (pollen), seedlings.² AGA-2774. Pollen from a Steve Jackson gigas x decus-silvae plant (via Alan Galloway) on Amorphophallus tinekeae.
2. Reported in the Amorphophallus Facebook group: the first flowering for Steve Jackson, from Craig Allen's seed, in September 2020;³ his second clone in flower in September 2024.⁴
STORY:
STORY TITLE: Pollen from a hybrid applied to a rare species
Craig Allen received a tuber from Alan Galloway that had originally come from Steve Jackson, one of the specimens from Jackson's Amorphophallus gigas x Amorphophallus decus-silvae cross.¹ When it flowered it showed an impressive combination of both parents, so Allen collected its pollen and applied it to his Amorphophallus tinekeae, a very rare species with a toxic green spathe.¹
