PHILODENDRON 'AMAZON RAINBOW'
ORIGIN:
Amazon Garden Thailand (Gijs Lamers); a sport of Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’; accepted by the IAS Aroid Cultivar Registry
CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:
A climbing Philodendron similar to Philodendron erubescens. In addition to the normal colors of the original Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ (deep burgundy, green, pink, and white), its leaves also show multiple colors of green, orange, and yellow, and the colors are much more marbled than on Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’. Its growth characteristics are the same as those of Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’; the differences lie in the range of colors. No flowers have appeared yet.¹
NOTES:
STATUS - Accepted by the International Aroid Society’s Aroid Cultivar Registry.
1. Philodendron ‘Amazon Rainbow’ is a sport of Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’, originated by Amazon Garden Thailand (Gijs Lamers) and named by Amazon Garden Thailand (Nok, Thanthira).¹
2. The originator began producing Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ in 2021, from Indonesia, propagating it only by cuttings. At the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 a single plant with a very different color pattern on the leaves was found; the originator began producing this mutation, and its color palette proved to be stable.¹
3. The name refers, in the namer’s sense, to the multiple changing colors on the leaves.¹
4. The registrant compares it with Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’: the growth characteristics are the same, but the colors are much more marbled and include green, orange, and yellow in addition to the deep burgundy, green, pink, and white of the original.¹
