PHILODENDRON 'KITINA'

PARENTAGE:

Philodendron 'Florida Beauty' × Philodendron mayoi

ORIGIN:

Prang Kitina and Yanakorn Kongtan of Oh My Plantae pollinated Philodendron ‘Florida Beauty’ with pollen collected from Philodendron mayoi in 2021; of the 300 offspring, 28 displayed variegation, and in 2022 they grew those 28 to maturity and selected one with superior leaf shape and variegation; accepted by the IAS Aroid Cultivar Registry.

HYBRIDIZER:

Prang Kitina

DESCRIPTION:

A climbing hemiepiphyte with pinnately lobed leaves. Young leaves emerge light green with yellow-green variegation and later fade to dark green with cream variegation. The peduncle is green where it meets the stem, fading to red-green at the base of the spathe. The spathe is red at the base and fades to green toward the tip, with a white spadix. The hybrid displays a combination of the traits of both parents: it maintains a growth pattern similar to Philodendron ‘Florida Beauty’, with green stems from Philodendron mayoi. The petioles are smooth and round. As the plant matures, it consistently produces narrow, pinnately lobed foliage; the lobes are round like those of Philodendron mayoi, while the lobed structure is similar to that of Philodendron ‘Florida Beauty’. The long, slender, variegated leaves and this combination of traits define the unique characteristics of the cultivar.¹
