AMORPHOPHALLUS 'GREEN GENES'
PARENTAGE:
Amorphophallus konjac × Amorphophallus albus
ORIGIN:
Cross of Amorphophallus konjac and Amorphophallus albus made by Cyrille Claudel; introduced by Plant Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Garden in 2022. The sources do not say who named it.
HYBRIDIZER:
Cyrille Claudel
DESCRIPTION:
The green stalks are 40" tall with large, muted black spots toward the bottom, topped by a finely dissected leaf 40" wide.¹ In late May the 32" flower stalk opens to a glossy light purple spathe with a darker spadix that exceeds the spathe by 4".¹ It offsets well in the garden.¹
NOTES:
1. Plant Delights lists it as Amorphophallus konbus 'Green Genes'; the x-name is a nursery label.¹
2. Plant Delights gives the cross as Amorphophallus konjac x albus, whereas Claudel's registered sibling cultivars have Amorphophallus albus as the female parent; the direction is therefore uncertain.¹,²
3. One of the named seedlings of Amorphophallus albus × Amorphophallus konjac.¹ Other named hybrids from the same two species: 'Mary Sizemore', 'Meister Eckardt', 'Glow Light', 'Alan's Legacy'. See every recorded cross of these two parents.
