SCINDAPSUS PICTUS 'LEGACY'

ORIGIN:

Rodolfo "Red" Antes, Philippines; a select form named by Daryl Dale Guevara, Rodolfo Antes and Chyrel Garma Dela Torre, released 2023; accepted by the IAS Aroid Cultivar Registry

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

Ovate leaves with a cordate base and an acuminate apex, entire, thick, trichome-rich and velvety, the smallest 9 × 6 cm and the largest 15 × 9 cm, colored vibrant yellow to green and silver in a marble-and-splash variegation with the silver streaks of 'Exotica' visible throughout; the smooth stems carry distinct longitudinal yellow striations.¹

NOTES:

STATUS - Accepted by the International Aroid Society's Aroid Cultivar Registry. The registry's own record reads Accepted: Yes, Established: No, so the name is accepted but not yet established in print. As of September 2026 the registry had accepted 17 Scindapsus names and published the entries of only two, this one and 'Mayari'.

1. Registered with the International Aroid Society's Aroid Cultivar Registry as a select form of the species released in 2023 and accepted, though not yet established; the registry records the seed parent as Scindapsus pictus and Rodolfo "Red" Antes as originator. The namers explain the name as their wish to leave a lasting impact on the world of rare foliage. The plant is grown in a well-draining aroid substrate at 28–30 °C and 60–80 percent humidity, under natural light or grow lights; no flowering has been observed.¹

STORY:

STORY TITLE: Four small leaves from Kalimantan

'Legacy' began in 2023 as a plant of four small leaves bought from a seller in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The two oldest leaves showed little variegation, but the leaves that followed, grown on by the Only Plants group, came in strongly marked, and three generations of cuttings were raised to confirm that the variegation held before the cultivar was registered.¹ Its namers, Daryl Dale Guevara, Rodolfo "Red" Antes and Chyrel Garma Dela Torre, chose the name for the lasting mark they hoped the plant would leave on the world of rare foliage.¹
