SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM 'MARIA ALLUSION'

ORIGIN:

Agri-Starts, Inc., Apopka, Florida

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

Compact, the leaves dark green with a red-bronze tint and dark pink veins,¹ the new leaves looking almost solid pink.²

NOTES:

1. Listed in 2002 as 'Mary Allusion' among the Agri-Starts sports.⁴

2. 'Plum Allusion' is its tetraploid form.⁵

3. Unconfirmed: Hatch describes an intense dark burgundy new growth with orange tints and never any cream or pale green, making it the darkest of the series after 'Plum Allusion'.³ Its variegated forms are 'Maria Allusion Variegated', with pinkish to cream sectors, and 'Maria Allusion Lava', medium green speckled creamy yellow with large white sectors carrying pink veins.³ The trade also uses 'Maria', 'Merry Allusion' and 'Cherry Allusion' for it.³
