SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM 'MAYA RED'

ORIGIN:

Gilbert R. Longoria, Mission, Texas; US Plant Patent PP4,514, 1980

CULTIVAR DESCRIPTION:

Similar to 'Green Gold' in habit and in the size and shape of its parts, but in the juvenile stage overlaid with a field of pink, red, yellowish pink and reddish brown that masks the green; the overlay fades in later growth as the leaves become palmately lobed.¹ It loses its red coloring by the time it is ready for sale, a fault corrected in its tissue-culture sport 'Infra-Red'.²

NOTES:

1. Developed from a seedling raised from seed of a 'Green Gold' plant at a nursery in Mission, Texas, and propagated there by stem cuttings; US Plant Patent PP4,514 was granted to Gilbert R. Longoria on 25 March 1980 under the title Plant of the Araceae family.¹

2. The parent of the Australian tissue-culture sport 'Infra-Red'.²
